During the summer of 2007, President George W. Bush signed a bill ratifying the Visa Waiver Program for a number of the United States’ prominent trading partners among them, South Korea. As part of the Free Trade Agreement taking effort in 2008, Koreans will no longer need a visa to travel into the country, and by 2009, trade restrictions will be lifted opening up the Korean economy and essentially uncapping the worlds fourteenth largest most prosperous nation. It is estimated by KOTRA that Korean travelers will soon reach two million every year, flooding the supporting industry with over $38 million and elevating it to becoming the third largest most spending country for tourism in Nevada. Serving as its catalyst, Korean Air has introduced uninterrupted flights into Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport.
Currently, there are an estimated three million Korean Americans in U.S., spanning 236 voting precincts with more than 1000 Korean American voters.
From the Free Trade Agreement taking its full effect in 2009, the United States economy will be openly accessible to Korean investors. Cities such as Los Angeles and Long Beach may be the first waypoint into the U.S.
however; because of its close proximity, lower cost of living, and abundant attractions, Las Vegas promotes itself as a more desirable locality.
2008년은 한국인 “무비자 시대 ”와 2009년은 “한미 FTA” 원년입니다.2007년 7월 미국비자 면제 프로그램 (VWP: Visa Wavier Program) 확대 법안이 부시 대통령의 서명으로 확정됨에 따라 한국도 2008년 12월 부터는 비자 면제국이 될수 있게 됩니다. 연간 방문객 수는 3년 이내에 2배 이상 (연 200만명) 증가하며 미국이 얻을수 있는 관광수익은 38억 달러 규모에 이르며 한국은 미국 방문객 수에서 전 세계 3위가 되고 한국에서의 투자 증가도 무비자 시대의 긍정적 효과중 하나로 한국 외한 자유화와 맞물려 미국내 부동산 직접 투자도 상당히 증가하는 것으로 예상 됩니다. 현재 미국내에 거주하는 한인은 300만명 이상이며 한인인구가 1,000명 이상인 선거구도 236개입니다. 또한 “한미자유무역협정” (Free Trade Agreement) 체결로 전면적인 시장 통합의 길이 열리게 됩니다.
한국의 교역량 증가로 미국내 투자는 자명하며 한국인의 미국 방문으로 인한 지역 경제 활성화로 한미교류 관문인 LA와 근접한 라스베가스는 한미비자 협정의 최대 수혜자가 될수 있는 다양한 컨텐츠 즉 도박도시의 이미지를 벗어난 가족을 위한 테마 도시, 세계 엔터테인트먼트 의 중심,컨벤션의 메카, 관광 도시 의 역할을 하는 세계 유일의 도시임을 홍보하여 지역 경제 활성화와 본국기업들의 미주 지역 진출의 교두보 역할에 앞장 설 것입니다.
